I kid. This shouldn’t be shocking — if you’re a pragmatist, not a polemicist. Point one: Trump has been hinting at amnestizing DREAMers for months. Usually that takes the form of gooey pronouncements about having a big heart and how “great people that are here that have done a good job … should be far less worried” about deportation than criminals. Lately, though, the White House has showed its hand more clearly by declining to suspend Obama’s DACA program for DREAMers as part of its executive overhaul of immigration policy. All Rush is doing here is getting in line with a Republican president he already spends much of his time defending.
Point two: An immigration deal with Democrats that would trade serious enforcement upgrades for amnesty for DREAMers does make a lot of sense. If Trump needs to horse-trade with Democrats to get 60 votes in the Senate for more Border Patrol, more sophisticated means of tracking immigrants internally, and so forth, legalization for America’s most sympathetic class of illegals is an obvious possible concession, especially since Obama’s already granted them

I’m CONVINCED that this is NOT Rush talking...although he may agree, to some degree or other (no clue here).
Basically Trump’s people know that sending back the ‘Dreamers’ (even if they are 25 year old killers belonging to MS13) will play bad, so they want to see how much room Trump has with his base.
My answer...maybe the following (just a thought). We take them if:
1) They can PROVE (conclusively) that they came here before they were 10 years old.
2) They haven’t (yet) killed anyone
3) They have some concept that the USA is not going to enslave them
4) (if they’re female) - they have enough class to marry a Gringo.
Also, they get ZERO rights to bring in ANYONE claiming to be direct or extended family (as I see it, the people that came to Ellis Island knew full well that their relatives would never get to come here through chain migration - if they really wanted to come here, they too could pay the money and take the risk to come here).
...then, maybe, we talk.
If Trump wants ANYTHING MORE - he is risking BREAKING his bond with his base. And if he breaks that bond, TRUMP will have to face Paul Ryan, Elizabeth Warren, and others that WANT HIS SCALP, alone - and he WILL be IMPEACHED, practically overnight.
I agree with RUSH! Deporting innocent people makes for bad politics. Lets start with deporting the true criminals and securing the border to at least stop the flow. One video of an ICE agent hauling a parent away from a screaming child will destroy any political will to enforce any immigration law. Law and order is great in theory. but in politics everything is perception.
Hardcore enforcement of the law without humanity is not justice, but tyranny.
Come on man. What have these kids taken from you? Nothing. I know they broke into your house and stole your health care and your social security benefits. They force you to get up every morning and go to work to personally support them. Get a grip. They’re kids for crying out loud. They didn’t personally break the law. you can’t justify the cop out on DACA. it would be awesome if people just admitted it was a misstep, and expressed hope that Trump will come back and undo this egregious bit of obamite tyranny soon.

first of all, I’ve been saying since this thing came out that trump will hopefully come to consider this a mistake, and come back to correct it. the hope that there is additional DACA guidance forthcoming is the only way out of this mess.
but then a small band of very loud, very self righteous types insisted on justifying the unconstitutional overreach of obama on DACA In its own right, which was more than I was willing to ignore.
