Nine asylum-seekers, including four children, barely made it across the Canadian border on Friday as a U.S. border patrol officer tried to stop them and a Reuters photographer captured the scene.
As a U.S. Customs and Border Patrol officer seized their passports and questioned a man in the front passenger seat of a taxi that had pulled up to the border in Champlain, New York, four adults and four young children fled the cab and ran to Royal Canadian Mounted Police on the other side.
One by one they scrambled across the snowy gully separating the two countries. RCMP officers watching from the other side helped them up, lifting the younger children and asking a woman, who leaned on her fellow passenger as she walked, if she needed medical care.
The children looked back from where they had come as the U.S. officer held the first man, saying his papers needed to be verified.
The man turned to a pile of belongings and heaved pieces of luggage two at a time into the gully -- enormous wheeled suitcases, plastic shopping bags, a black backpack.
"Nobody cares about us," he told journalists. He said they were all from Sudan and had been living and working in Delaware for two years.

The man then appeared to grab their passports from the U.S. officer before making a run for the border. The officer yelled and gave chase but stopped at the border marker.
Canadian police took hold of the man’s arm as he crossed.
The border patrol officer told his counterpart that the man was in the United States illegally and that he would have detained him.
Officers on both sides momentarily eyed the luggage strewn in the snow before the U.S. officer took it, and a walker left on the road, to the border line.
Focus groups are showing them their old words aren’t working any more? Maybe they don’t have a word for someone leaving yet. They have self identified as illegal but can’t use those words. More focus groups on the way, needs more study.........................
Looks like the system is working. I especially liked, “gave chase” to the border.
Nine? It’s a good start.
“Maybe we should do what Mexico does. Anybody crossing our southern border is welcome to continue on to cross our northern border. But if they stop here, they get deported.”
Sounds like a great plan. Maybe, we can provide free one way bus services:
a: To Canada or:
b: Back to Mexico
The agents pointed to the North and said,"bessalama"!
One must ask themself what past acts in the family’s illegal history in the US was the family in such a rush to flee and the media so deliberate to conceal?
a) Criminal impersonation and identity theft
b) Voting fraud
c) Welfare fraud
d) Other Criminal Liability
e) All of the above
Absolutely: Hopefully, ICE/Homeland is checking their abandoned luggage, their business, home they fled from and their social media contacts!
I think we should install those one-way out turnstiles for them at the Canadian border.....anybody can exit through one, cant return without completely vetted credentials.
We are in the very early stages of a process to expel millions of foreigners.Germany has started offering foreigners cash to go back home.I wonder if Canada will someday be adopting one of those two policies...or will she allow herself to become a country of “Press 1 for Arabic...Press 2 for Spanish....Press 8 for English...Press 9 for French”?
Trudeau better get a grip or Canadians will throw out the Liberals
Why?
Now that is what I call "winning"!
Our gift to Justin Trudeau!
Future proud lumberjacks
Lol!!
My guess is that there are cameramen stationed at various border checkpoints now to try and capture how "uncharitable" our border enforcement policy is.
If they were living here for two years, what made them decide to leave the country? Canada can have them and support them, as far as I am concerned.
Allowing them entry into Canada was a violation of Canadian law. One cannot enter Canada if one has been charged with any felony or some misdemeanors. Obviously, an illegal alien in the US has committed a felony offense.
Something very fishy about this story. US Border patrol does not usually intercept people or vehicles attempting to leave by crossing the border. If you look at all of the crossings, the lanes leaving the US go straight to Mexico and Canada customs booths, no stops for US customs unless your entering
Exactly, unless they were already being chased.
