I was working for a public employees union in CA when Facebook went public. They were celebrating in the office, why? Not because of an American success story, but because of all the tax money they would receive from the capital gains.
The worst display I can recall was during and after the start of the Greater Depression in 2007/2008, when the government was bailing out financial institutions and preventing them from giving taxpayer money to executives as bonuses. The governor of NY and mayor of NYC both insisted the bonuses be paid anyway, because both were dependent on the income taxes on those bonuses (NYC has a personal income tax).
The morality involved meant nothing to them.
