OROVILLE, Calif. (KCRA)
Crews are beginning to make repairs to the spillways at Lake Oroville, the California Department of Water Resources said.
Efforts are underway to make repairs to both the primary and auxiliary spillways at Lake Oroville, officials tweeted.
Military-grade helicopters are picking up 1-ton containers of rocks from a parking lot near Lake Oroville, flying them to the erosion scar at the emergency spillway and dropping the containers into the hole.

The UN and EPA should come to the rescue here, simultaneously demonstrating how they will stop the rise of the earth’s temperature.
1) Simply install a big bubble around the dam so no air goes in or out without your control.
2) Remove the carbon dioxide from within the bubble.
3) Write a check for one million dollars to a third world country (this is, after, a small scale version)
The water around the dam will freeze and we will all be saved!
Weather channel today was covering this.. I had it on as background noise. They showed a small pile of stones and helicopters... it sure did not look to be enough to fill any portion of what has been washed out. I sure hope those in charge know what they are doing, but I have my doubts.
Yes, Shasta Lake is at 96% with storms coming. They reduced their outflow to 49,000cfs to relieve some of the pressure on the Sacramento river. Just in case.
The Sacramento river is only two feet below flood stage in downtown Sacramento and some levees are breaking in the delta...islands being evacuated.
Shasta dam is going to have to open the floodgates to avoid potential disaster there involving 4.5 million acre feet.
30 feet of snow in the mountains. And it’s not even spring yet.
How about dropping a train in it to fill the hole? Or moonbeam himself?
State fails ro fix the dam when they could have and now asking for the feds to pay for it? I hope Trump tells them where to get off.
His theory is that if you have two very similar earthquakes along the same fault line, that there will be another one half way which he calls the fulcrum point.
Well, guess what! There was a 5.3 in Alaska earlier today and then just now a 5.0 in Mexico or ?? but they was 3751 miles apart.
Half way is Oroville Dam. I watched him explain the theory on some quakes in Italy before these two went off.
Prayers for everyone.
They know what they are doing.
It’s just not possible to get all the resources onsite on such short notice.
It would take tens of millions of tons of material and several months to put it in place.
They are doing what they can, which is minuscule compared to the problem to be solved.
Yet they labor away, day and night.
And hope the rain is lighter than expected.
Wow. I didn’t realize the town was that close to the dam.
Never say never. They don’t need this.
does anyone remember Hurricane Katrina?
why didn’t they...
drive , school busses. dumptrucks...
off the bridge, where the 17th St Canal,
connects to Lake Ponchartrane.
anything would have been better than nothing
Obviously there is a concern they cannot prevent a wall of water, else they would not have started evacuations.. I have been watching this unfold since the rupture was first noticed last week...
Personally, I think people should have been 'warned' to be prepared to flee last Thursday... I thought it was typically 'liberal' to wait until Sunday afternoon and then call for evacuations...
That is what I meant by having doubts these in power know what they are doing.
There are 200,000 homeless people with noting but what they could pack into the vehicles in 20 minutes.
They went from “everything is OK” to immediate evacuation due to imminent failure in less than 12 hours.
When any fool could see the overflow was going to wash away the unprotected hillside and compromise the integrity of the vessel.
Thanks for the update on Shasta dam!

Ping to Shasta @ 96% full, they’re letting water out but don’t want to jeopardize Sacramento river levees..
Which have water within 2 feet of their tops...
Makes one wonder about 'intent'... All I kept reading/watching was everything was ok, when the pictures said otherwise... and then bam flee the area with no warning...
> primary and auxiliary spillways
Used to be called primary and “emergency” spillways.
Whatever you call it, it’s most certainly high drama.
Especially for those of us that are close.
1) Terrible, terrible drought
2) Overflowing reservoirs
3) More rain is coming
You forgot...
4) Criminally inept government
While a ton of rocks sounds like a lot, it is nothing compared to the water coming off that dam. Might as well be dropping pebbles in.
I wish this was all aimed at moonbeams house and the rest of the cali libtard socialist democrats.
Moonbeam is concerned about the effects a large volume water release will have on the snail darter. Environmental impact statements should be completed and resulting lawsuits should be cleared up in a decade or so.
Those baskets hold about 1/2 cubic yard of stone. Think about how many helicopter trips that will take. Don’t those helos burn fossil fuels? Why isn’t Moonbeam worried about the carbon footprint of this project?
Moonbeam and his ilk are constantly lecturing us on our responsibility to the planet. Now he doesn’t care all that much about global warming.
