Economics bump for later....
Taxation does not lead to prosperity.
Calling people luddites for recognizing our national borders and interests is a Democrat/communist tactic.
Fair trade not free trade. If you charge me a 10% tax on every car I export to your country and I charge you 2% for cars we import from your country that is not free trade or fair trade that is us getting screwed over-—again.
Dollar for dollar, even-Steven trade deals and let us beat them through productivity and innovation. But to hamstring yourself right out of the gate is just self-defeating stupidity in which out trade negotiators are PHD’s!
“Nevertheless, some people for example, the Economic Policy Institutes Robert Scott continue to insist that the loss of manufacturing jobs in the U.S. is largely due to increased American trade with non-Americans.”
Strawman argument.
That’s not the claim at all.
The claim is that manufacturing jobs have been lost due to entire plants and industries being relocated outside of the US, taking advantage of what economist Paul Craig Roberts describes as international labor arbitrage.
Not due to “increased American trade with non-Americans”
Sad to see FEE using an argument that has the smell of the Left’s “xenophobia” canard.
Do massive taxes to feed and house the unemployed make your taxes more expensive?
GM sells 10 million cars for first time thanks to China [Free Republic].Just off the wire.
“will hurt small businesses and consumers by making imports more expensive.”
Cheap imports hurt small businesses more because no one has a job to buy their products and services. So what if they can manufacture their products cheaper, as no on is buying.
Besides, small, business are hurt the worst because they usually are light manufacturing and cheap imports kills that segment of the market.
If somebody says, "If you believe this you're a Luddite" most people will say, "Fine, I'm a Luddite (whatever that is)."
The name calling is designed more to make the guy who wrote the article feel good about himself.
