This overlooks the advent of the internet age, i.e. "the hive mind". Everything is just so mercurial now, and it is quite frightening to be honest. But let us march on! The earth is still beneath our feet.
That may be what was the hoped-for effect, and what the progressives are still working on an effort to bring to pass, but IMO it has apparently had an opposite effect, giving the conservative thought a far wider exposure than it has had in the days of the mass media.
