Yep scary indeed.
Any attempt to start a military coup will probably just end in a few dozen collaborators being arrested and court martialled for treason. I don’t think there would be more than about 5% support for anything like that in the military and there would be 60 to 80 per cent solid support for Trump (and the constitution). Those with no strong opinion would read the situation pretty fast.
The current wave of protests looks more dramatic because it’s mostly near big media centers and supported by the media. If similar numbers of people came out to support Trump in a hundred smaller cities, there would be almost no coverage and no media support. Just like the election, all of this is basically tilted to the ten largest cities and therefore unrepresentative.
Maybe Trump should just say, well, America doesn’t really need those ten cities, maybe they should form a ten-city confederacy like in ancient Greece and go off on whatever tangent they want. But we’ll keep New York, too important to lose. Really, if Los Angeles, Seattle, Portland, a bunch of other places left, who would miss them? You can drive around them. I already do.
