Boy you got that right.
From wikipedia:
Men above the age of 50 cannot be sentenced to caning. However, the law was amended in 2006 such that men convicted of sex offences may still be sentenced to caning even if they are above the age of 50. In 2008, a 56-year-old man was sentenced to 57 years jail and 12 strokes of the cane for rape
Further up in the article it says “18-50” 24 strokes.
Caning is no “ordinary ass whipping.”
At the minimum it leaves you in excruciating pain when inflicted and days after. If maximum canning is sentenced, it kills you in a horrid death. Burning alive would be quicker and less painful.
Singapore will not kill him but sure as hell will make him hurt that day and for days after. Attitude adjusted!
Since Singapore is muslim, this makes it even more interesting. haha
Last time I was in Singapore, I lit a cigarette. A very nice Policeman came over and pointed at a bench (looked like a typical bus stop bench with an ash tray on each end).
He said “Please, Sir, smoke here”
I said “Sure, Thank You.”
(If I had refused, I would probably still be trying to get out of that jail that I was in)
He wasn’t accredited to Singapore.
“The Saudi diplomat works in China, and was on holidays in Singapore”
The quoted part of the article was misleading. When he was in Singapore “diplomat” might have been his profession but it wasn’t his status. He was a tourist like anyone else.
He would have no more right to diplomatic immunity than you or I. To have diplomatic immunity you need to present yourself to the host government and be accepted. He probably had done that in China, but not Singapore.
Yes, that can happen. The other thing that can happen is the diplomat’s government can yank his diplomatic status without returning him home. In other words, cut him loose.
According to the article corporal punishment is largely banned in Europe and in 31 US states. Would be interesting to know in which 19 it’s still legal and how much, if any, it is still in use therein. If still legal in so many jurisdictions, cruel and “unusual” arguments should lose. Sounds like something to work on at state levels so when the black masked protesters arrive in red states swinging batons they can receive appropriate punishment.
Yes. Singapore has resolutely done its own thing for decades.
If you set it off, a polite uniformed officer, usually female, asks permission to wand you. This happens at random when you are waiting at the gates as well.
Nobody says no because these ladies are comely as well as polite.
What are the impact points? Specified/coordinated with the type of offence?!
Or its an executioners choice/preference?
Hard to resist hot Asian women.
No. Plurality Buddhist (33%). Second is Christian (19%). No Religion in 3rd (19%). Mohammadans in 4th (14%).
I recall about 10 years ago the son of a Saudi diplomat in Washington got charged with DUI (and I believe assault or fighting the police).
His father waived immunity immediately and let the charges/penalties stick.
Looking is for free. But no touching!
Something the diplomat will learn the hard way.
Dont worry Bill, were going to get around to dealing with you too.

If Slick Willy were ever sentenced to a caning, the sentencing country could make a ton of money by showing it on “pay for view”.
“husband asked if I would go to Singapore for his work with him. I said hell no because of their justice system. Too effed up.”
You’re missing visiting a truly remarkable city state! No drugs, no Gays, clean as a pin, and very friendly citizens. Just what is “effed up” about their justice system? Because they kill you for drug trafficking? You won’t find a drug problem there!
I loved staying at the “old” Raffles Hotel.
“Hard to resist hot Asian women.”
Actually it’s harder to resist Euro-Asian women like those who inhabit Singapore. Fly Singapore Airlines and you will see for yourself. Best airline in the world, or at least is was when I was traveling internationally.
My kids were fractious
