In a major escalation of the state's battle against local governments refusing to comply with federal immigration laws, Gov. Greg Abbott on Wednesday moved to immediately carry out his promise to withhold grant money to Travis County because of a new jail policy he contends makes Texas' capital a "sanctuary city."

Abbott's announcement comes as Hernandez enacted a new policy Wednesday under which she will detain inmates on behalf of federal immigration officials only when they are charged with murder, sexual assault or human smuggling.
The new policy changes a longstanding agreement that allowed agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to place "immigration holds" or "detainers" on Travis County inmates - no matter the seriousness of the crime for which they are arrested - when agents want to further investigate their status.
But critics have said the process results in deportations of people for relatively minor crimes.

Why? Cruz is doing great things in the Senate now. Of the two TX senators, Cornyn needs to go long before Cruz.

He gave a rousing State of the State speech Tuesday in which he scalded the notion of sanctuary cities. He received numerous LOUD standing ovations.
I found it humorous afterward to discover it was “mooselimb day” at the capital. I don’t know who the hell came up with the idea of a day for those terrorists but hopefully it was so they could hear the governor excoriate terrorists AND illegals in Texas. If they listened to Governor Abbott they got told how the cow eats the cabbage in more than one area.
Trump has his back. Federal funds soon to follow.
What we need is a few well publicized perp walks showing lib sheriffs and mayors being led out in handcuffs.

I could not agree more! Cornyn needs to be our focus for replacement but we currently need Governor Abbott in Austin. I do appreciate him and if he continues matching actions to campaign promises he should go far. But for now, he has governor work left to do. Legislature is in session.
And good grief, Cruz made loud, in our face, errors but Cornyn is quietly undermining us as all good Rinos do. He’s the viper.
Cruz made another beautiful speech in support of Sessions.
Yeah, Cornyn gets all conservative sounding as election time approaches, but as soon as he gets reelected, he reverts to RINO type.

But, he still has time to do something to make up for it in the Senate.
I'm all for it with the stipulation that outlying areas aren't forced to take up the slack.
Well, Trump burned bridges with me, a bunch of times, during the primaries, but I’m glad he’s President. And he has time to make up for those things as President. Works both ways. Cruz is a good ally to have in the Senate and on TV, as he has shown recently.
Not as bad as What Trump said about Cruz’ wife and father.
Besides, Cruz campaigned for Trump.
The feud is over except for a few bitter dudes.

Absolutely! Cornyn needs to go...yesterday. The longer he stays, the more he slides left. Not so with Cruz. I don’t understand the Cruz haters.
