Manchin has voted for Trump's appointments to date but he has made it clear that he considers DeVos completely unqualified for the position and he will not be voting for her. And I doubt it will hurt his publicity at home among Republicans and could help among what's left of his Democrat base. And if Manchin, the most vulnerable of Democrats, won't do it then I don't see any of the other Democrats doing it either.
I've always thought DeVos was the weakest of the nominees and the one most likely to embarrass Trump if confirmed. If she doesn't make it through the Senate then it isn't a huge loss to the cabinet.
Why not just abolish the whole Department?
Who ever dismantles the DOE and destroys the NEA is fine with me. No more Common Core and everything shifts to the local school boards. They are attacking to ONLY WOMAN on the cabinet. You can’t make that up. I say just close it down — Obama closed immigration control. We close unconstitutional federal intrusion in local education.
You don’t understand that there hardly is any “qualified” education people who are not marxists. People voted for Trump because the highly “qualified” politicians have been determined to be scum. All the “qualified” educational establishment has stood by and encouraged decades of the dumbing of America, the brainwashing of kids, and the withholding of a good education to America’s poorest kids.
If DeVos does nothing but push through school choice, which is her passion, that’s enough for me.
At this point I absolutely trust Trump’s judgment. He has been right all the way to present. Education is a difficult position to fill. Candidates with experience in the system are part of the system and can’t get very far in it or amass a good record without being sidelined or pushed out.
