A lot of my ancestors were Huguenots (Protestants) in
Catholic France. Treated horribly, murdered and run out
of France. Stopped over in Holland, ended up in England;
settled finally in the colonies, then fought the crown after
a while, divided up land grants until the land got really
diluted. Cherokees on both my parents’ sides of the family.
Scots-Irish, French Huguenot (Maupins), Cherokee, British.
A lot of different blood flowing through these veins. One
of my Cherokee ancestors was later a lightskeeper on the
Tinase (Tennessee) River & carried a Smith & Wesson
revolver in his job. Now I have the S&W for use just in
case any Jihadists attack out here. Still shoots good.
(Several Jihadist training camps all over the country.)
Hussein’s buddies, I guess.

My dad’s family was Scottish up until he married my mom.

Her family originated in Germany, was hired by the English to help drain some of the English swamps and decided they liked England better.

They came over from England and settled in the Carolina’s.
They picked up some Cherokee while there.

My family history is pretty straightforward.

My second wife’s family was from England but our kids only claim the Scottish part of their ancestry.

Pretty cool you have the old pistol.
Nice family heirloom with a purpose!
