Buy avacados from Colombia...they are better. Colombia is pro American and very pro Trump! I know because I’m currently in Colombia!
The Washington post is lying.
Lets say I sell Takis for living. I buy them from the Mexican vendor for 3.00 a bag in bulk loads of 100 bags per pallet. With the tariff it now costs me 3.60 per bag. Retail I charge 9 dollars per bag so I only have to raise the bag price 9.60 to recover my cost. That’s not a 20 percent rise in consumer cost, it’s less than 10.
Now if our markets are closed to the Mexicans, who are they going to ship all those avocados to?
I don’t think my guac is going up. Avocados come from CA not Mexico. DVDs and CDs though are going to take a hit, most of those are printed in Mexico.
Another McCain inspired $10 lettuce story.
Don’t cry for me guacamole.
Important note: if you buy avocados when they are cheap, and grind them up without other ingredients except lime juice which prevents browning, they freeze very well and keep for a long time. Then, when you want guacamole, defrost and add the other ingredients you like.
My own recommendation is to not add sour cream as an ingredient, but keep it on the side with some green onion on it. Americans prefer the more sour taste of sour cream over French crème fraîche or Mexican crema, both of which are milder.
In any event, after eating guacamole with pico de gallo or salsa mixed it, and the other ingredients, a chip with a bit of sour cream and onion on it is a great contrast.
The third dish is either refried or black beans, with some added heat to make them interesting. Add some pizza cut cheese crisps and you have a serious meal. Cold beer is nice.
Can I live without guacamole?
Yes.
Yes I can.
It’s difficult to reflect upon the horror my generation’s youth when most fruits and veggies in the grocery store were of the seasonal variety.
How did we survive?
Let’s see, my auto insurance goes down, because fewer uninsured, unlicensed drivers. My auto and homeowner’s insurance goes down, because crime goes down, fewer gang and drug issues leading to fewer break-ins. My property taxes go down (I’m dreaming, I know) because we’re not paying for illegals kids in schools. My health insurance premiums and costs go down, because we’re not covering uninsured illegals using our medical system and not paying. My state taxes go down, because we’re not paying for illegals on state assistance or over-using state resources. Ditto for federal assistance.
I think I can spring for 60 cents more for my guac.
