I just don’t see Schumer retiring in the next six years. Course, maybe some special interest group will pay him off and Kennedy would get appointed to the job and catch on that way. But Schumer appears to be in good health and ought to be around for the full six years.

Truth be told, the Kennedys don’t have the pull they once did, even in the Democrat party. As others have pointed out, Caroline’s last bid for public office was an absolute disaster; for someone with her background and education, she is almost incoherent and exhibits almost no spark or charisma. Gillibrand is a pretty dim bulb herself, but she could beat Kennedy (and rather handily) in a senate primary.
