Man walking barefoot across America killed in Florida
The Naples News ^ | Jan. 23, 2017 | Ashley White

Mark Baumer, an activist who was walking barefoot across America, was hit and killed by an SUV Saturday afternoon outside of Mossy Head, Florida...

Baumer was pronounced dead at the scene. FHP said alcohol was not a factor. Charges are pending.

Baumer, who was raising awareness for climate change, had just finished his 100th day of his journey. He started in Providence, R.I., and was destined for California. He took a bus to Florida after it started snowing in Ohio. He passed through Tallahassee on Jan. 7.

“The big overall goal is to raise awareness and fight climate change,” Baumer told the Tallahassee Democrat when he passed through town. “The more specific goal of that is to raise awareness and funds for an organization back in Rhode Island that’s fighting climate change.”

The organization is the FANG Collective, a Providence-based environmental organization. The initial goal was to raise $10,000. On Jan. 16, Baumer updated the crowdfunding page saying it was three-quarters of the way to the goal. Now, more than $16,000 has been collected.

The FANG Collective released a statement about Baumer’s death on Facebook...

Baumer updated a blog daily, typically in the morning. His last blog post included a picture that had his feet and the word “Killed” with an arrow above it spray painted on the ground.

On his journey, Baumer would walk on the shoulder of the road or in the grass. If there wasn’t a shoulder to walk on, he would walk in the road.

“The best surface is usually the white line because it’s painted and really smooth,” Baumer said.

“....was destined for California.”

No.

The i.q. of the World just went up a notch. On second thought, maybe not. He was intelligent enough to let the gray dog do his walking.

I do feel sorry for all those who do things to ‘raise awareness’. As if we aren’t bombarded everyday with ‘concerns’ from Leftists, demanding we pay attention to them. I am sorry for this guy who was run over. He was naive, but didn’t deserve to lose his life for his naivete. But I really think, at this point, that the ‘raising awareness’ has lost it’s cachet with people who are trying to survive in the remnants of Obamaland. Prayers that Trump can again put this country back on the right track.

I don’t agree with his cause but he didn’t deserve to die for it.

He didn't die for his cause. He died doing something stupid - unless the vehicle swerved off the road to hit him he died because he was walking in the road. Roads are for vehicles not pedestrians.

He took a bus to Florida after it started snowing in Ohio.

Like the activists who had to be rescued by ice breakers when their cruise ship became ice bound in the Northwest "Passage", the concept of winter was somehow squeezed from his brain by an injection of s***.

I chuckled, but I felt bad about it.

Bus ticket?

Where do people like this get their money?

He doesn’t have to work?

His life would have been better spent working, and donating 25% of his earnings to people displaced from tornadoes, hurricanes and earthquakes.

The lesson: Climate Change Self-aggrandizement will get you killed and help no one.

Shoes had to be man’s very first precaution and protection from the world around him, when we came out of the trees or left the Garden of Eden.

So the kind of mind that gives up those on a 3000 mile walk probably has forsaken many other common sense protections as well.

The good news just keeps coming. God created the climate[weather changes] and also seasonal changes. When you fight the climate, you are fighting God.

The organization is the FANG Collective, a Providence-based environmental organization.

FANG = Fighting Against Natural Gas - "Building, supporting and escalating nonviolent resistance to the natural gas industry."

Wow.

He let the gray dog do his walking. He was, in addition to being a what Lenin called a useful idiot, also a liar.
