ACLU seeks copy of proposed changes to US election law

The American Civil Liberties Union asked a federal court to force Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach to turn over proposed changes to the nation’s voter registration law that the conservative Republican was photographed bringing to a meeting in November with Donald Trump.

That draft document — which is partially obscured by Kobach’s left arm and hand in the photograph taken by The Associated Press — is being sought as part of the ACLU’s lawsuit challenging Kansas’ restrictive voter registration law. The ALCU filed its request for the proposed amendments late Monday.

Kobach has championed Kansas’ proof-of-citizenship requirement as an anti-fraud measure that keeps noncitizens from voting, including immigrants living in the U.S. illegally. Critics argue such requirements suppress voter turnout, particularly among young and minority voters, and that there have been few cases of fraud. …

You know, back when the ACLU first infected America, they were careful to hide the fact that they're merely an America hating commie bunch of fags. Now, they're proud of it and don't bother to try to hide it.

Woe is us if we don't get this pendulum swinging back to the right for the next 60 years.

Formative documents are typically excluded from FOIA requests.

Audit California’s 2016 Voter rolls and ballots, like Detroit’s before wise libs shut it down. CA would be red in 2020.

...(and they’ll have to prove it by being on welfare, food stamps, etc.)

I believe those people already have to have ID to receive benefits.

I’m sure that you’re correct - to do anything with the payment, they either have to have a bank account in which to deposit a check, or ID to simply cash it.

That ought to eliminate any real objection to photo ID at the voting booth.

I think you might be mixing up the demand for a driver’s license-—a REAL ID driver’s license-—and getting a voter registration.

I know they have demanded more info for the ‘REAL ID’ driver’s license-—but you can bypass that with a Passport.

I never was asked to bring UNOPENED mail to use for ID backup.

I did have to have my birth cert—embossed—not a copy & my prior driver’s license or current one—and 2 other pieces of ID to open a new bank account in 2005 when I moved to another state. But that was because of the Patriot Act & it was far more than I ever had to do for a bank account for the 50 (FIFTY) years prior.

The REAL ID does demand all the proof of all my name changes—marriage & divorce papers, but I don’t think I can find one of those documents. So I am doing a ‘work around’ & getting a passport so that I can fly if I have to. I don’t need the REAL ID (yet) for just a driver’s license.

I have had an embossed copy of my birth certificate with me since I graduated high school & left home. I also have my high school diploma & other documents from my youth.

The part that offends me the most is that the local banks were advertising HEAVILY in 2005 that they would open a bank account for an illegal-—who most likely could NOT
come up with all the documentation I had.

The other horn in my side is the states that are giving invaders driver’s licenses & the DMV employee is REQUIRED to also hand them a voter registration paper. That employee can lose their job if they fail to give out that paperwork.

I registered to vote with very little ID & no hassles. They NEVER asked for any of my marriage & divorce records.
I don’t recall if they asked for my birth certificate.
