The F.B.I. director, James B. Comey, told his top agents from around the country that he had been asked by President Trump to stay on the job running the federal government’s top law enforcement agency, according to people familiar with the matter.

The director of the FBI serves at the pleasure of the president...he can be dismissed if Trump doesn’t like the tie he is wearing.

Comey walked a razor edge with Obama in Office. He was faced with blatant criminality on the part of Hillary, and a President that demanded he not recommend prosecution. That impossible situation was set up when Bill Clinton met with Lynch on the plane and she stated she would follow the recommendaion of the Head of the FBI. If Comey recommended prosecution, he would be fired. His career at the FBI would be over, no matter who won the Presidency. If Hillary won she would be immune. If Trump won and nominated him for the Head of the FBI after being fired by Obama, the Dems in the Senate would demagogue and smear his character, and block his nomination.

So, in my mind he told the truth about Hillary, but followed the President's orders. At the same time FBI agents on the ground knew the truth, and the truth started leaking out. I don't believe any of us would have liked to be in his shoes. Sometimes the good guys are manipulated and put in impossible positions.

Obviously I could be entirely wrong about this, but time will tell, especially if all the evidence comes out and Hillary is prosecuted.

Bill Clinton will skate, because the nation would have problems with a former US President in prison. Hillary wants to skate along with him, but she's always told everyone she's the smartest person in the room. Hopefully justice will be served, and she will find out that actions have consequences eventually.

Good grief people, give him some time. Comey is there for a reason, when that reason is no longer there he will be replaced.

Unless he truly impresses Trump now that his hands are untied by the justice department then he will be gone, everyone knows that.

None of us know the real insider information on how the whole Hillary thing happened either, but Comey sure does. He’s staying for a reason, a very good reason, because Trump knows how controversial this decision will be to everyone across the spectrum. If Trump and Sessions DO decide to go after Hillary then him being where he is might be a very good thing. I bet the very last thing Hillary and Lynch both wanted was to hear him announce this. It makes him Trumps pet now, and yes, he really does know where the bodies are buried.

Every just stop and breath for a second, there has to be a good logical reason for him to do this so lets wait and see. If it IS Hillary and Bill then Trump will give some BS answer as to why he kept him on, just wait and watch. The reason can’t just be “Oh, he is doing a good job, blah, blah, blah,” then you know it’s far deeper than that.

I think it’s a great thing he’s staying on simply because to me it means there has to be a really good reason besides job performance to have him there. Whole lot of stuff is going on behind the scenes, lets wait and see what that is.

Comey’s body language when he greeted Trump in the Oval office was less than impressive. He struck me as being shy and subservient, possibly embarrassed.

With respect to the emails and the mishandling therein of classified information, I agree his handling of the investigation was purposely bundled and my feeling is that he was basically covering his own ass. Frankly, I would not have envied his place given the intense political pressure he was under. I don't know his exact reasons for more or less botching the investigation and the best I can do is speculate on why he failed to produce a recommendation for indictment, even though the evidence amounted to as much.

That said, he always left the possibility of “reopening” the investigation and the truth is that he could have done more to have foiled the investigation, ensuring Hillary was “untainted” politically by the scandal. The Democrats could have had more to bat us on the head with if not for Comey’s dressing down of Clinton's “carelessness.” The basic truth of the matter is Comey put the ball into the court of public opinion. It may not be the federal court, but he left it to the public to determine if she was guilty.

And let's not forget he served under Attorney General John Ashcroft, one of the more principled figures of the Bush administration. He didn't immediately go along with the legally questionable (truth be told, illegal) mass surveillance program Dick Cheney and David Addington quarterbacked. In fact, Comey, among others, threatened to resign.

Trump wants to wait and see with Comey. Let's wait and see.

Well .. I don’t agree.

I believe Comey was threatened to “obey” or else.

Seriously, I believe Comey did what he did .. as a result of the DOJ’s threats (which I’m more than sure happened); and those threats came right from Obama’s WH.

Comey was not going to be allowed to destroy Hillary Clinton .. ever.

I suspect Trump knew that .. and decided he would challenge Comey - do you want your credibility back - by proving he can do the job. But, of course, some of the Repubs may not like what Comey may have to do to get his credibility back.

Anyway, this is just my opinion .. you don’t have to agree.
