This was the least of the problems with the law - it not only forced you to buy insurance, but what kind of insurance you had to buy, literally outlawing many types of low cost insurance, pushing younger people out of the insurance pool as it became too expensive...not to mention the massive regulations on doctors / healthcare providers causing a reduction in quality and quantity of healthcare providers.
Yes, the law mandated that everyone buy a Cadilac, when a Chevy would do. By my last count, there are 72 mandated coverages in the ACA. Young and healthy people, or those who would simply prefer to self-insure the low risk of large health-related expenses, do not have the option of buying a catastrophic illness/injury policy.
