Garth Brooks is probably a liberal. However, being an outspoken one in an industry whose audience is middle American would be career suicide, as the Dixie Chicks discovered a decade ago. In other venues like theater, movies, and pop music, there is no real costs in being leftist. Country music is different. So Brooks babbles some pious nonsense as cover.
from Chicago Tribune, 1994
“In the interview, Brooks talks about such subjects as his growing disillusionment with Nashville and some of its young performers as well as his hope that his daughter, Taylor, will grow up to do something-such as work for the United Nations, perhaps-to try to make the world a better place, a place whose residents all feel closer to one another.”
