A statement by US President-elect Donald Trump that Nato is "obsolete" has caused "worry" in the alliance, Germany's foreign minister says.
Frank-Walter Steinmeier said it was a contradiction of comments made days ago by Mr Trump's incoming defence chief.
Mr Trump also said German Chancellor Angela Merkel had made "a catastrophic mistake" by admitting more than one million migrants.

Why are we sending US troops to the Baltics as part of the NATO force to serve as a tripwire for Western Europe? If the Russians come streaming across that border they are not invading the USA. The only tripwire troops that should be there should be Western European troops.Time for them to grow up and move to the tip of the spear to defend themselves while we lend logistical support.
Nato is as useless as the Eurotrash countries, who hate America and yet want us to defend them.
Their failure to recognize their real enemies, the Islamics flooding into their countries and their PCism will destroy them, not Russia.
These weak lady snowflakes would melt under the stress of a real conflict with Russia.

Exactly the same reasons European men and women fled into the arms of American soldiers when the Russians were flooding across Europe in 1945. GREATEST mistake in 1945 was America letting the Russians take Berlin. We’ve paid the price ever since. Nevertheless, the Russians are better than the Muslims. We may need to join forces to defeat Isis.
This is my primary area of concern with Trump. NATO has been a brilliant alliance and stopped the Russians cold. I agree that everyone needs to pay their share but it must remain in place. Nothing would scare the eastern Europeans faster than to throw it out.
NATO and America brought down the wall. It may have been obsolete while Russia was looking inward for 20 years but the Russian bear is on the prowl again thanks to Obama’s flexibility and letting it out of the cage. NATO is vital to keep Europe free.
I’d rather just create a new alliance with just the former Communist countries.
