During his interview on CBSs Sunday 60 Minutes broadcast, President Barack Obama blamed the corrosive nature of talk radio and fake news for providing two of the most unpopular presidential candidates in history.
You had two of the most unpopular presidential candidates selected by the two parties in history. Doesnt that say somethings wrong, something serious is wrong? host Steve Kroft asked.
Obama responded, It indicates that there is a lot of cynicism out there. It indicates that the corrosive nature of everything from talk radio to fake news to negative advertising has made people lack confidence in a lot of our existing institutions. I think it indicates, at least on the Democratic side, that weve got more work to do to strengthen our grassroots networks.
In some ways, the Democratic Party hadnt constructed itself to get that message out to the places it needed to get to, he continued. The Tea Party I have huge disagreements with, obviously. But I give them credit for having activated themselves. And they made a difference in terms of moving the Republican Party, in terms of moving the country in a particular direction. Its a direction I disagreed with. But it showed that, in fact, you get involved, if your voice is heard it has an impact.

The Kenyan is the originator of fake news.
Conflating “talk radio” and “fake news” is both wrong and a very pernicious activity. One is not necessarily correlated with the other.
Fake news has many sources, and in another era it would have been called “disinformation” or “agitprop”, seizing some actual occurrence, then spinning up a totally wrong interpretation of what was supposed to have happened.
One glaring example was the confrontation between Michael Brown and police officer Darren Wilson in Ferguson, Missouri. The false narrative was that Brown had turned, with hands raised, about to surrender to Officer Wilson.
In fact, Brown was making a rush, in the face of gunfire, to try to tackle and overcome the officer, with whom he had only moments before been engaged in a struggle over possession of Officer Wilson’s handgun, then Brown had turned and attempted to flee, only turning around when Officer Wilson demanded he stop, at the point of the gun so recently fought over. Brown had no intention of surrendering.
And paid the price for disobedience to a lawful order.
That pesky First Amendment.
Hillary! unpopular?
Say it isn’t so Barak!
Oh no. Seems to me they were about equally liked,
Trump just had a better plan to win.
Say bye, bye
to the turd in a tie
There was nothing fake about what was leaked about the dnc and hillary.
Of course the unspoken but obviously true follow-on to that is:
"Which is why I directed the Internal Revenue Service and the Department of Justice to illegally use all of their coercive powers to disrupt and thwart the plans of conservative organizations to oppose me and my agenda and my re-election, and to jail Dinesh D'Souza and other critics and whistleblowers, and to intimidate those few members of the press who strayed from the correct path. It worked. I won."
Hey O’bastard, the corrosive nature of CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, The New York Slimes, the Washington Compost, etc....that’s what is dividing the country. All of them are fake news.
Soon to be the most bitter ex-president in history.
EVERY talk radio host assisted with the “birther” Alinsky tactic that allowed him to usurp the office which he was Constitutionally ineligible to hold.
Talk radio is the problem? Ok so where was his outreach to talk radio audiences? Sure he showed up plenty of times on AA talk radio, but not popular mainstream shows like Limbaugh, Hannity, Savage, Levin or even relatively amiable local shows like Simone in NYC.
I do remember Bozo mocking Limbaugh listeners during his first month in office.
So he was being cynical?
[It indicates that the corrosive nature of everything from talk radio to fake news to negative advertising has made people lack confidence in a lot of our existing institutions.]
Those institutions that the left has been actively destroying for decades. Including the institution of marriage.
Speaking of 60 Minutes, is Steve Kroft still cheating on his wife?
Originally, talk radio was mostly liberal leaning. Anyone who grew up around NYC in the 60’s remember WMCA, Fabulous 57, the home of the Good Guys? Along with top-40 every night for a half hour Barry Gray would do a talk show on that station. He was a lib, but very articulate and his show was actually very interesting. When the station ended their music format and went all talk in 1970, it was then when Bob Grant started his show. Everyone in the business thought he would be laughed off the air within a week, a CONSERVATIVE talker in the NYC market, he wouldn’t have a chance, they said. Well his show became wildly popular, in fact Rush Limbaugh in his first book credits Bob Grant’s pioneering work as one reason for his own success.
And I doubt Hillary is getting a pardon. Yeah, she may get one
but I be surprised if it happened.
15,000 to 20,000 showing up for Trump rallies DOES NOT equate to “unpopularity”.
The only people who wanted Trump are... the people.
He is only unpopular with the media.
