The thing I don't get is why people think that “everyone” should have health insurance. It seems like a misunderstanding of what insurance is actually for. Insurance is primarily meant to protect your assets in case of some type of catastrophe.
I spent 25 years scores hauling people who had no money to hospitals. How many do you think were turned away because they didn't have coverage? None, not one in 25 years. We had one alcoholic / bum who was transported hundreds of times per year. He ran up a 2 million dollar tab. What did Obamacare do to remedy that situation. Nothing!!!
And even though he did not pay, the state sent some of that to the hospital so your alcoholic was turned into a cash cow.
The answer to that nonsense is free clinics where the doctors volunteer to treat chronic conditions like alcoholism. There are acute cases which would still need to go to the ER, but the rest of the time he would be sent to the clinic.
