People always say stuff like that once somebody from a minority group gets elected, but it doesn't bear out.
If there are enough candidates in the race, they divide the vote between them and somebody who can exploit the divisions comes out on top, even a White guy (Garcetti in LA, de Blasio in NYC, Emanuel in Chi).
That said, the candidate next time will probably be Black or a woman (or a Black woman) because the Democrat field looks so weak.

A white male, Jewish candidate has no chance with the Dem base. Their identity groups hate all three of those attributes. That’s the reason Bernie lost despite running against the wildly unpopular Hillary Clinton.
