Here’s the scam:
Alot of the soft drinks are resold to two bit gas stations in the hood. Converts SNAP to cash, and the gas station owners pay less to stock their shelves....and ghost inventory probably helps at the end of the month when they shield cash transactions from the tax man.
“Refugees” receive food stamps too, right? Gotta get your Halal meats!!!
Last year’s news recycled by mom and posted already here.

If they don't like it, it might encourage them to get a job. Tough love.

Nor is it unusual for some to drink a two litre each day. That can easily be $70 monthly !
Food stamps, like ethanol fuel,is a program that benefits the supplier more than the recipient.
The “Debt Food Stamps” line looks doctored, to be frank.
I don’t believe you can buy pop in NY with SNAP, AFAIK.
“If they don’t like it, it might encourage them to get a job.”
The overwhelming majority of SNAP recipients (adults) are already employed, sometimes with multiple part-time jobs.
Way back when you couldn’t buy junk food or prepared food with food stamps. Now you can.
