Judah Benjamin ran away and never came back. Stayed in Europe after the war.
I don’t recall the book title but there is a great story out there about Breckenridge and Benjamin’s flight south through Georgia and Florida then on to Cuba.
Breckenridge had sunken a boat in a creek in FL in the early days of the war just in case he ever had to do what he did.
Might have been in The Long Surrender by Burke Davis.
