The NAACP President Cornell William Brooks is calling on Donald Trump to apologize to Alabama Rep. John Lewis, after attacking the civil rights icon in a series of tweets.
“By disrespecting John Lewis, Donald Trump dishonored Lewis' sacrifice & demeaned Americans & the rights, he nearly died (for). Apologize,” Brooks tweeted.

John Lewis disrespected Trump. He doesn’t get a pass because he’s black and Trump made no racial reference., only to his incompetence - which was a well deserved criticism. If Trump says anything it should be that he will apologize when Lewis disavows publically his statement that Trump is an illegitimate president.

It's beyond ridiculous how some act as if Selma was as deadly as the landings at Normandy or Iwo Jima. How many died at Pettus Bridge? It was an important event in the Civil Rights Movement, but only a tiny fraction of what some pretend it to have been in terms of danger and injury to the participants as a whole.

Anyone who can get the NAACP’s collective panties in a wad is deserving of awe and admiration.
They stopped being a ‘civil rights’ organization long ago. With typical leftist mission creep, they have morphed into complete self-parody. Nobody with even half a brain should show the NAACP any respect whatsoever.
Lewis was clearly out of line. If Lewis wants someone’s respect, perhaps he ought to have shown some to begin with. He’s evidently one of those who can dish it out but can’t take the return fire.
If he had wanted to hold on to his ‘civil rights icon’ status, he should have long ago ditched the hyper-partisan shtick, and acted with the dignity befitting an icon. Instead he chose the path of using lies and racial demagoguery to score cheap political points, calling out ‘racist, racist’ lies against innocent Tea Party members, and other grave misdeeds. This latest incident just reaffirms that the content of Lewis’ character is reprehensible at best.
If he did apologize, he wouldn't be the guy I voted for....
