Had Martin Luther King not been assassinated, he would have ended up a minor albeit important figure in American history. There would have been no streets named after him in EVERY major city in the country or holiday in his honor.

Instead he got turned into a martyr and those in proximity of him assumed a holiness that should never have been merited. Jesse Jackson even wore his shirt stained with King's blood for DAYS after the shooting. Like it was a modern-day Shroud of Turin.

But it's forbidden to say such things aloud. King's disciples are deemed untouchable and beyond mortal accountability.

There may be no true peace among the races of America until all of King's retinue are six feet under. Maybe then their lingering bitterness will die with them.
