According to his ribbon rack, 15 years of war, and his only overseas trip was an annual training someplace.
My brother-in-law Colonel Bob has a huge ribbon rack. We were over at his house as he was getting ready for some sort of formal occasion... and his daughter started asking about all those ribbons. He started, “ Well this one is for changing my socks for 30 days consecutively.” And then went on from there... he had us all rolling on the floor laughing by the time he was through.
Of course he, like so many others these days had multiple overseas deployments. My sister-in-law and our nieces came to live with us during a few of those because she was having health problems. Our niece who asked about his ribbons joined the military a few years later and just got back from a deployment in the Middle East a few months ago.
