He was appointed by obama. All appointments end at noon on the 20th

He, like all others in his position, ends his term on noon of inauguration day. Trump offered to let him retain his position until the inauguration proceedings was over but he declined.

Makes him a liar when he says he would never plan to leave his post "in the middle of a battle"

He's a publicity whore and part of the fake news of the day.
