WATCH Authorities Investigating Video of Dog Chained to Crate on Florida Highway (video)
Authorities in Florida have launched an investigation after a video emerged on Facebook of a dog chained to the top of a crate being towed by an SUV driving at least 70 mph.
Palm Coast resident Brenna Cronin, 24, shot the video Wednesday afternoon in Flagler County as she and her boyfriend were driving southbound on I-95 toward Daytona Beach. In the video, a dog is seen standing on top of the crate, which contained at least one other animal, while a Chevrolet Tahoe pulls the trailer at high speeds. -snip-
Once the driver realized Cronin was filming him, he "gave me the finger," she said. Cronin said she is "happy" that the video she took led to an investigation of the owner....
The dog seen in the video is a Blue American Pitbull Terrier named Zeus, who does not like to ride in the crate, Ritter said. So his owner, who said he uses the dog for hunting, allows him to ride outside, Ritter said.
A Flagler County ordinance allows people to travel with a dog in that manner as long as the animal is tethered twice to the vehicle. .
Zeus was only tethered to the trailer once, Ritter said.
"The driver didn't have any bad intentions," he said. "...He honestly didn't know any better."
Zeus' owner is cooperating with the investigation and has agreed to allow animal services to conduct wellness checks, Ritter said.
...the Humane Society "would not recommend it at all" and stressed the "importance of having any pet secured when driving."

Urban myth
I swear, this April Fool’s Day I’m going to get a leash and collar and drag them behind my truck. Of course, I’ve been saying that ever since the movie came out.
One that is not a myth though, the gull that grabs your bait when you are fishing and you snatch it out of the air
Bullshit
I use to live in far west Texas and there was a guy that drove around town in a pickup and his dog sat on top of the cab no restraint. I would sit on the balcony of my apartment and watch this guy drive by on a regular basis and that dog sat there on top of the cab and leaned into the turns like it was surfing, never slid off, just sat there enjoying the ride, I guess. It always cracked me up. Just say’n who knows what dogs think?
But a good one. I’m thinking it’s been at least 40 years since I recall hearing that one.
I know I’m scared shirtless every time I’m on I-95. :-)
It’s right up there with feeding grits to fire ants with same said result
Even the dogs in the cage are gonna end up with corneal ulcers from the wind.
This is purely cruelty and stupidity, come together in a perfect, horrible storm.
Nobody is that stupid.
His autonomic system alone could not account for him being that effing stupid, yet still manage to breathe.
One of my pet peeves, no pun intended.
My dogs have no idea what it’s like to stick their heads out the window, nor will they ever.
Djinni, one of my Ibizans, got corneal ulcers when she a little over a year old and it was pure agony.
(We think a fabric softener caused irritation or an allergy and she went overboard rubbing her eyes)
No amount of money or specialists could ease her suffering.
She just had to tough it out until it healed.
She’s 11 now and spent her whole life with reduced vision, which is tragic for a sight hound, and she still gets flares ups.
People don’t understand hoe devastating corneal damage can be.
Some people need a bat upside the head.
Google canine corneal ulcer images.
I dare you.
People unwittingly feed birds grains that cause their crops to rupture.
That’s why many no longer throw rice at weddings.
A local guy with a dog in the back of his truck got t-boned.
They never found the dog.
Probably died a slow death in a ditch somewhere.
Dogs like a lot of stupid things.
We’re supposed to be smarter than them and protect then from themselves.
