Lets go back to the last two pub vps (Cheney and Quayle) or even forward to the next one (Pence). Could you conceive any of us in tears over any of them getting a medal from their immediate superior? I sure cannot.
Awards seem to be a big thing among libs deserved or not. Awards can be nice but choking up over them? I think not.

Like you say, most real warriors will insist the heroes are the guys who didn’t make it back. But they’re just being modest, maybe feeling guilty for making it out alive when the guy next to them fell.
