But I could be wrong, wouldn't be the first time.
Good, analytical post. Well done.
“I don’t see Obama doing this. First, if Hillary accepts the pardon, it is a de facto admission of guilt.”
To you & I, maybe. But to Clinton-supporters? Democrats? The Media? If she isn’t wearing prison orange complete with nice shiny bracelets, then it didn’t happen. And they will continue to deny reality.
“I don’t see Obama doing this. First, if Hillary accepts the pardon, it is a de facto admission of guilt. Second, Obama WANTS the Clintons to continue to be dragged through the mud so he can assume the mantle of top dog in the Dem Party. And third, continued investigation of the Clintons can be used for fundraising and propaganda. Too many chumps on the left see the investigations into Hillary’s actions as a right-wing witch hunt and therefore are easy marks for fundraising.”
I agree. And add to your list that NOT pardoning Hillary leaves a real tar baby for the Trump administration, which is pretty much damned it they do and damned if they don’t investigate/prosecute, whereas a pardon lets the Trump administration off the hook.
And then there’s the giant “stain” on Obama’s “legacy” if he does pardon Hillary, yet another reason not to do it.
It is my understanding that a conviction is absolutely unnecessary for obtaining a presidential pardon, however, the party in question reportedly must “apply”, or otherwise appeal, for a pardon directly or through an intermediary (legal counsel).
Have you heard this?
If this is even correct, probably this action has already been taken on the part of the Clintons. Since the clock is running, Obama has certainly been dragging his feet, or, the Clintoons have some reason to be unconcerned and have not pursued processing a request.
I would have thought Obama would have taken care of Clinton prior to his spotlight “Going Away” speech.
Otherwise, a last day Clinton pardon would appear to step on his good will sayonara and blow up his performance.
