They’re a bit on the wild side when they actually are puppies, and puppyhood for Labs extends out three years or more. A great deal of patience and energy is required, people who get Labs expecting the typical happy-go-lucky behavior from the outset are in for a surprise. After that, they settle into goofy, happy Lab behavior that really is like what most would associate with a puppy, very playful, very eager, great companions. Eventually they settle into couch potato and start having weight problems as many of us do, along about ten or so. Still sweet, happy dogs with an excellent disposition.
Yes. Exactly. I once had someone ask me “How long do Labs stay puppies?” The dog was only just two years old. She was a bit surprised when I told her “Not very soon.”
I also was amused when someone would tell me “I want to get a Jack Russel because we live in an apartment and they are small dogs.” I was told this more than once. I just smiled and nodded sagely.
