Monica Crowley, President-elect Trump's pick for senior director of strategic communications for the National Security Council, appears to have plagiarized numerous sections of her Ph.D. thesis, according to investigations by CNN and Politico.
Politico, in a report published Monday, identified more than a dozen instances of plagiarism in Crowley's Columbia University thesis, "Clearer Than Truth: The Evolution of American Policy Toward the Peoples Republic of China Under Truman and Nixon."
On Thursday, CNN's KFile followed up on Politico's report, revealing 40 additional instances of plagiarism in Crowley's thesis, which was submitted in 2000. Her dissertation apparently lifted from scholarly works, the Associated Press, and former secretary of state Henry Kissinger.
Crowley has not responded to requests for comment about the newest investigations into her thesis. She came under fire earlier this week after CNN's KFile revealed she had apparently plagiarized at least 50 sections of her 2012 book, "What The (Bleep) Just Happened?"
This is what it says on page 168 of Crowley's Ph.D. thesis, which can be accessed via the academic database ProQuest:
Mueller found a "rally in support at the beginning of the war and high levels of public support into 1966. By mid-1966, however, support had declined in the wake of such events as infighting among the South Vietnamese and the emergence of vocal criticism of the war during the Fulbright hearings in early 1966. By this time, the public had also come to see that the war would not be over quickly but was instead likely to be a long, bloody affair.
The material was copied verbatim from Eric V. Larson's "Casualties and Consensus: The Historical Role of Casualties in Domestic Support for U.S. Military Operations," according to CNN:

so disappointing... i would not be surprised to learn she wrote none of it... that she had an assistant write it, and the assistant was not careful with copying others' works... what else is disappointing? that other conservatives are giving her a pass on this...
i spent many hours last semester teaching my 15-year old son how to cite works and quotes in MLA format... plagiarism: lazy.... thievery...
These people couldn’t scope out Hussein’s document timeline and SS# mess?
Columbia U never revoked her degree.
That says a lot about their academic standards or the lack of them.
Bottom line: then and now they didn’t care she was a plagiarist.
And NONE of her “work” was original.
But are you sure that their claims she plagiarized are true ?
Have you read her thesis ?
I can’t defend her.
If plagiarism was wrong for Biden, its wrong for her.
That’s a character test.
“We have a First Lady now who may not even have finished college but said she did.”
Michelle Obama did not finish college?
Not even her undergrad and not a JD?
That one is a technicality. That exact quote she used from Mueller appears in another book, with the same words introducing it as a Mueller quote.
Now, there are only so many ways to introduce a quote. And maybe that specific quote so well describes a complete thought that it is simply natural that the quote appear like that. But generally they would want a reference note indicating that another author had found the quote and pointed out the relevance to the topic.
Still, I used to write columns, and if I found a quote in some other writing, I would research it myself, find the original source of the quote, and cite that instead. But these weren’t scholarly papers, just opinion columns, and so I didn’t feel it was so important to point out where on the internet I first found a quote used, only where the originator was.
In part, this was because if your opinion column cites some other column, everybody who has an opinion about that other column gets wrapped up about that instead of the quote.
So... you mean you are normal.
Don’t excuse it if you dont want.
But we aren’t winning any damn golden stars because we are retarded enough to have the Democrats use the easy among us to torpedo our people, while the same thing on their side is allowed to sail on through.
Or maybe the people here trying to virtue-signal can explain why Biden was VP for 8 damn years?
Nope. It’s not.
Boston University already had a big confab about that.
they admitted it and the question is settled there. But because of cowardice and some strange miracle his Ph.D will stand, my prediction is it will stand forever.
They already know it’s just the average people walking down the street you don’t know anything about that and I don’t think they want to know anything about that.
They want to focus on his cause and his Charisma and with those two narrow things I think I agree.
but regarding his name and his Ph.D I disagree.
To me it is Mike King Day.
By who? CNN ?
“I cant defend her.
If plagiarism was wrong for Biden, its wrong for her.
Thats a character test.”
Biden was a senator and then Vice President.
it WASN’T WRONG FOR HIM because our side is all talk when it comes to the left.
A better deal is that when the people crying on FR manage to stop a Democrat cited for the same thing THEN have your time shooting at our own people.
How Martin Luther King Jr. Got His Name
Martin Luther King Jr. was born on January 15, 1929 as Michael King Jr. after his father, a powerful preacher in his own right. King was known as Little Mike throughout his childhood, but the name did not last long.
Things shifted for King at the age of five, when many historians believe his father changed both of their names. In Parting the Waters: America in the King Years 1954-63, author Taylor Branch describes the elder Kings 1934 trip to Europe which inspired the name change and would forever change history.
We are not giving her a pass on this. We are trying to find out if it is actually true.
CNN is saying this and... they had no problem with her thesis all the years she worked for them.
Have you read her thesis ?
His father did legally change his own name but did not legally change the name of his son.

This looks like a service libraries have available via subscription. I got no results for Crowley or Monica on the basic site.
I think its a shame people are piling on without the facts on the say-so of the lame-stream media. I would prefer to have the facts first.
Plagarism is the practice of taking someone else’s work or ideas and passing them off as one’s own. If the thought or words are unique to someone else and you use them in a context where they are assumed to be yours that would fit the definition. If you are repeating what someone else’s phrases or speech and credit them either directly or by bibliography that would be SOP. To take a paragraph out of context without seeing how it was introduced or followed or without looking at footnotes/bibliography is not an adequate basis to judge whether plagiarism is involved.
When something is presented as “Muller said” it is already clear that you are referencing another individual’s words. If in the preceding section you have referenced a third party’s work referring to Muller it would be expected that this is another reference to the referenced work on Muller.
At this point I am not clear whether that is the case in the Crowley thesis. What is clear is that the MSM distorts, misquotes, selectively quotes & makes things up out of whole cloth so presumption of innocence to Monica Crowley while waiting for the facts.
Fine. But find out if it’s true before you decide she is guilty.
He was caught plagiarizing speeches from British politician Neil Kinnock.
ah.... again I have to say it.
Before you convict, maybe you should find out if it’s true.
I just was looking it up. Sounds like his dad changed both of their names.....would be something if he didn’t change Little Mike’s.
