First off, CA’s vaunted “sixth strongest economy” bragging point would dissipate, once the 31 U.S. military bases, all military assets, the entire government payroll and job-creating aspects of a military presence (20% of the jobs in San Diego are spawned by the bases and derivative economies) all disappear, along with $66 billion in federal contracts and $43 billion in annual grants.
Second, with CA’s budget reeling from $400 billion debt, I’m curious as to how the westies imagine they’ll stand up a defense structure, national transportation system without federal monies and a substitute for federal assistance when that state sustains its next big earthquake.
Third, one secession begets another, as the nine counties that comprise the State of Jefferson will use that opportunity to sever from California and will likely remain with the union, creating a brand-spanking-new conservative red state.
Fourth, the remaining rump state of California, now severed from the bottom border of Butte County extended, will in short order become usurped by Mexico.
But hey... who are we to get in the way of their fantasy, right?
Oh man, I really, really, really want a State of Jefferson. We here in Butte County and above are sick and tired to the heavy hand of Sacramento.
