I remember. After WW2, kids started wearing jeans, flannel shirts, t-shirts, saddle shoes and bobby sox. But there was still almost a separate class for married people. Men and women dressed well to leave the house and go in public. Women still wore dresses, hats and gloves on Sunday or for any important occasion, even for going shopping downtown. Men wore suits and overcoats with fedoras. Both genders wore gloves, except in the summer, when men did not, but women still did except at the seashore. Even to walk the boardwalk in Atlantic City, men and women dressed up in the evening. Noice the guy in front with his sports jacket over his arm. He and his parents probably just went to a nice seafood restaurant for dinner. Tablecloth restaurants required jackets and ties.
