Rebecca Ferguson has issued another statement about her request to perform the 1937 protest song Strange Fruit at President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration on Jan. 20.
The British The X-Factor alum further explained why she had asked to sing that specific song, writing, “I wasn’t comfortable with the song choice made on my behalf, and although I’m very blessed to have a gift that gives me amazing opportunities, as a mother and an artist, I had to defend my stance. That is why I made the decision to sing ‘Strange Fruit’ when I was invited.”
Ferguson also cited her support for the #BlackLivesMatter movement, explaining, “I wanted to create a moment of pause for people to reflect.”
But, ultimately, she will not perform. “There are many grey areas about the offer for me to perform that I’m unable to share right now, but I will not be singing,” Ferguson wrote. “However, I genuinely wish your nation nothing but love. I would also like to pay homage to a few of your great female artists: Nina Simone, Billie Holiday, and the brave and remarkable Eartha Kitt and her beautiful untold story.”
Ferguson follows in a long line of stars who have declined to participate at the inauguration including Welsh singer Charlotte Church, Grammy-winning producer David Foster, Elton John, Andrea Bocelli, and KISS.

open to all citizens of the country to welcome the next president of the United States by singing various patriotic songs in which EVERYONE will sing.
Seems to me I read a while back that she had been asked (by a “journalist”), “IF you were asked to perform at Trumps Inauguration, would you accept?” And she replied that she would only accept if she could sing that vulgar and completely inappropriate song.
A few days ago I see this new “report” that SHE turned down a request - because she told them she would only sing if she could do this song, and she was told “no”.
See how they do this?
I thought it was about a rock and a comparison of that rock to the head of Billy Goat.
Use American singers and no jive gospel singers.
Marine or Army band playing the National Anthem, or God Bless America.
No intonations by a Muslim imam!
But sing it with a box over her head.
She was going to punk the event with that song. It would’ve been the equivalent of calling Trump and his supporters a bunch of racists. Good thing they had the sense not to let her sing it. And of course she showed her stripes by refusing to sing anything else.
Based on this choice, perhaps the inauguration team should check out the availability of Sinead O’Connor.

The inauguration team should be investigated, and the person who made the asinine proposal to invite this skank to perform should be shown the exit door, because whoever it is was attempting to sabotage the entertainment program.
