Rebecca Ferguson has issued another statement about her request to perform the 1937 protest song Strange Fruit at President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration on Jan. 20.
The British The X-Factor alum further explained why she had asked to sing that specific song, writing, I wasnt comfortable with the song choice made on my behalf, and although Im very blessed to have a gift that gives me amazing opportunities, as a mother and an artist, I had to defend my stance. That is why I made the decision to sing Strange Fruit when I was invited.
Ferguson also cited her support for the #BlackLivesMatter movement, explaining, I wanted to create a moment of pause for people to reflect.
But, ultimately, she will not perform. There are many grey areas about the offer for me to perform that Im unable to share right now, but I will not be singing, Ferguson wrote. However, I genuinely wish your nation nothing but love. I would also like to pay homage to a few of your great female artists: Nina Simone, Billie Holiday, and the brave and remarkable Eartha Kitt and her beautiful untold story.
Ferguson follows in a long line of stars who have declined to participate at the inauguration including Welsh singer Charlotte Church, Grammy-winning producer David Foster, Elton John, Andrea Bocelli, and KISS.

How about asking a nice Conservative American girl to sing America the Beautiful, or God Bless America?
Attempting to appeal to a bunch of neo-hippies is simply wrong-headed! Perhaps she'd like to sing in Ferguson, MO.
The article does not mention that Andrea Bocelli and his family were threatened and harassed. The blind singer felt it prudent to withdraw because of the liberal hate threatening his family, not about Trump. They left that part out, but what else is new about the corrupt press. The media is to blame for nearly all of this when they were paid by Clinton to paint Trump as a monster to get the Corrupt Queen elected.
Her loss.
Who IS this person?
I was not familiar with the song “Strange Fruit” so I looked it up. I won’t put the lyrics on FR - that Ms. Ferguson would suggest that she would appear only if she could sing this song is beyond disgusting.
“Who IS this person?”
Well, she’s lost I know that much.
she’s fugly ...
I never even heard of this dope before she started making statements as if she was someone of importance.
I remember “Strange Fruit” from the movie Lady Sings the Blues. It is about lynchings in the South. Part of the life experience of Billie Holliday, perhaps, but not even remotely appropriate for a presidential inauguration!
Never heard of her and sorry she’s a typical screwed up leftist.
Rebecca,
We hardly knew ye.
Strange fruit was a song about blacks being lynched. I’d say it’s hardly appropriate and very unfair. Good riddance.
The British The X-Factor alum, Rebecca Ferguson. Why should we care a whit?
She has an ugly fat face!
I remember when pop tarts had to be at least remotely attractive.
Another of Webb Hubbell's illegitimate children, by the looks of her.
Sounds like she is ugly on the inside and out. Ugly to the core!
I guess I’m out of touch. I thought it was about Barney Frank and his ilk.
Some reports. one on Yahoo...sigh, claim Marie Osmond has offered to sing.
More white people are murdered by blacks every year than all the extra-judicial lynchings of blacks ever throughout the entire history of the Untied States, including Colonial history.
I think that fruit is pretty darn strange.
Based on this choice, perhaps the inauguration team should check out the availability of Sinead O’Connor.
