That record was written in the mid-80s, during the Reagan-Thatcher era of British and U.S. politics, he added. It was a period when there was a lot of unrest. Thatcher was in the throes of trying to put down the miners strike; there was all kinds of shenanigans going on in Central America.

Yes, and all the guitar players Phil worked with make Dave “The Edge” Evans sound like he’s developmentally disabled on the guitar; he hasn’t gotten any better in 41 years (he formed the band in 1976, under different names like “Feedback” and “The Hype”, the latter of which is actually fitting). BTW, Evans is actually Welsh.
If you saw The Edge in “It Might Get Loud”, you could see how Jimmy Page and Jack White made him look like a rank amateur.
