Students at one of Europe’s top universities are calling for philosophers such as Plato, Descartes, Immanuel Kant and Bertrand Russell (pictured) to be dropped from the curriculum because they are white.
The student union at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) in London is demanding that when studying philosophy “the majority of philosophers on our courses” should be from Africa and Asia as opposed to being white, Western thinkers.
The students claim this is part of a strategy to “decolonise” the college, which they regard as a “white institution”.
St. Clement was certainly a great Saint, although perhaps not among the world’s top philosophers. I would agree with you that St. Augustine belongs in those ranks. But I’m not sure whether he should be considered an African. At that time, the Middle East and North Africa were basically Roman. Africa proper was to the south. Those countries were basically Roman or European until Mohammed came along and de-civilized them.
And I doubt whether black African students would consider him to be the sort of “African” they are looking for.
Besides, he did most of his best work after he moved to Europe.
Mixed bag. Some of the philosophers of the last 400 years have helped us to think in new ways.
They’ve also introduced us to meaninglessness, relativism and atheism.
Not sure they can be replaced with other skin colors just for the fun of it.

So they want to ban Karl Marx, Herbert Marcuse, Antonio Gramsci, Theodor Adorno, Michel Foucault, Jacques Derrida, and so on just because of their race? I thought these were the heroes of the progressive Left.

Asia may have a few philosophers to cover, Africa? Not sure there. If the students are studying ONLY Asian or African Philosophies, then it is a short course.
My take: attention whores at work.
They can use the Bible because just about everyone in that book is Asian. Other great Asian philosophers include Heraclitus of Ephesus, Zenodotus of Ephesus, and John of Damascus.
Great African philosophers include Eratosthenes of Cyrene, Ptolemy of Alexandria, Hypatia of Alexandria, and Moses ben Maimon, aka Maimonides.
It's a power trip. They get their kicks knowing that whites will never dare to so much as complain for fear of being branded "racist" and maybe even charged with a crime.
Had they tried something like this a hundred years ago, they would have quickly been turned into strange fruit.
This is just like Mao’s cultural revolution ‘red guard’.
Except these snowflakes only have power on campus, they don’t have the BALLS to try to take it further and try to overthrow the government like they did in China. But they are doing a great job destroying our culture.
