There are 100’s of old balding hippies that look like Ventura. It was shown that Kyle lied at other times. Maybe Kyle got Jessy mixed up with another old balding dope smoking hippie.

I tend to think this was the situation: Kyle may have had a brief scuffle with a guy that looked like Ventura and dispatched him quickly. I think Kyle was sincere but simply mistaken.
