Hollywood studios have been losing money big time for many years domestically. They primarily rely on overseas sales to make any profit. Also, a great deal of production has been moved to Canada and elsewhere other than the Los Angeles area because California is so hostile to all kinds of businesses, including its most famous business.
Interesting you would say that because many of the films movies that make a lot of money overseas aren't overtly political: action movies (especially in recent years based on comic books) and animated movies. Just about all of those overly political "message" movies up for awards consideration often don't have a potential market outside the USA.
But like I said earlier, the vast majority of movies and TV shows in production or "greenlighted" for production within the last 18-24 months were done with the assumption that Hillary Clinton would be President. Hillary's loss is going to cause a lot of production headaches, to say the least--hence the reason why I wonder will Warner Brothers have to reshoot several sequences from the upcoming Wonder Woman movie to reflect the new political climate, a change that could result in a delay of the film from June to late November 2017....
I really think our Hollywood celebrities really need to take some time off from doing movies and TV shows and just go on a driving vacation across the USA to see the real people of this country--in effect, take a road trip across "flyover country." THEN they'll realize why Donald John Trump, not Hillary Rodham Clinton, is the 45th President of the USA.
