President-elect Donald J. Trumps transition staff has issued a blanket edict requiring politically appointed ambassadors to leave their overseas posts by Inauguration Day, according to several American diplomats familiar with the plan, breaking with decades of precedent by declining to provide even the briefest of grace periods.
The mandate issued without exceptions, according to a terse State Department cable sent on Dec. 23, diplomats who saw it said threatens to leave the United States without Senate-confirmed envoys for months in critical nations like Germany, Canada and Britain. In the past, administrations of both parties have often granted extensions on a case-by-case basis to allow a handful of ambassadors, particularly those with school-age children, to remain in place for weeks or months.
Mr. Trump, by contrast, has taken a hard line against leaving any of President Obamas political appointees in place as he prepares to take office on Jan. 20 with a mission of dismantling many of his predecessors signature foreign and domestic policy achievements. Political ambassadors, many of them major donors who are nominated by virtue of close ties with the president, almost always leave at the end of his term; ambassadors who are career diplomats often remain in their posts.

I wouldn’t have any problem if no US envoy at all in Germany, until Merkel is kicked out of power.
Message to Schumer Clowns: If you want to play hard ball; we will teach you how to do it right. Consider this a shot across the brow.
Best interregnum ever!
In before winning.
Do not care. Do as President Elect Trump has ordered.
Considering obama has taken to salting the land on his way out, who wouldn’t expect his appointees to carry on likewise until they were replaced? There is no sense in having an adversarial underling.
And don’t let the door hit you in the ass as you leave!
If they were appointed by Obama, they’re just up to no good anyway. Probably telling the Germans they need to import more Muslims.
Elections have consequences!! Rats get a well-deserved dose back!
Good. Git ‘em outta there!
You’re FIRED!
Winning.
This along with the President-Elect’s announcement that the CIA will be overhauled tells me that a nest of double agent spies has been allowed to develop within the US intelligence networks over the Obama years.
Firing the ambassadors and envoys ensures close-end communications are disrupted between enemy agents.
Not to be picky, but the article does not define “often”, and it appears it was a case by case basis for a handful of ambassadors. They need to leave as ordered.
Oh, my goodness! Whatever will those waifs do without our ambassadors to guide them???
Team Honeybadger don’t care.
The NYT thinks edicts aren’t edicts unless done by Republicans. They like edicts very much when done by Obama and other Dems. The worm has turned.
So Trump is truly going to drain the entire swamp, looks like. I love it that he’s getting as much done in advance as he can. He’s getting good advice from his potential cabinet and he’s not afraid to pull the trigger.
Absolutely love it!
Wondering in what condition these hacks and Butt Hurt donor “ambassadors” will leave their embassy quarters.
Is there anything to keep President Trump from assigning loyalist “receptionists” in the place, until which time a newly appointed US Ambassador arrives? I can see some covert and overt advantages of doing so.
