Toyota Motor said will build a new plant in Baja, Mexico, to build Corolla cars for U.S. NO WAY! Build plant in U.S. or pay big border tax.
We have the right, unless we’re a signatory to an agreement that precludes it. Like NAFTA.
Why don’t they sell their Corollas in Mexico? They should be able to afford them with the billions sent to Mexico from the US...
I see the finished Toyota four door Tundras in four colors crossing the border into San Diego loaded onto car carriers. They are ready for the show room floor.
Correct. It may be for Corolla sedans sold in Latin American markets, not the US market. And that includes parts of South America that doesn't have local content laws.
Hello?!!!:
oops... they come across the border on the car carrier trucks.
The money influence from China has perverted and compromised are political parties.
Even Toyota sources say it’s the North American model. Since Mississippi facilities are new, I’d guess the production decrease would come from Ontario production.
Just FYI:
http://www.cbc.ca/news/business/toyota-moving-corolla-production-to-mexico-from-ontario-1.3033661
...Toyota will spend $1 billion on an assembly plant in Guanajuato, Mexico, and move production of its popular Corolla sedan there from another plant in Cambridge, Ont.
The Mexican factory will have the capacity to crank out 200,000 cars a year, bringing an end to the production of the Corolla in Canada...
Amen!
They do.
“The Corolla plant was in Kommiefornia with GM making the GEO brand for GM. They closed it years ago.”
Wasn’t that the NUMMI plant that Tesla bought?
They do: IN, TX, MS, TN, believe. Probably elsewhere, too.
Maybe Toyota could get on Donald’s good side by hiring Mexican workers who get deported from the U.S.
why can’t japan protect itself from Chinese aggression ... oh because we do it and we pay for it. Now move the freakin factory!
trump may already have this worked out. look for an announcement from Toyota that they are going to build the corollas here.
Heh, wouldn’t surprise me either
But when all those other countries out there tell us they don’t want our products unless we build a factory in their country (actually, lots of countries have long had a 50% or whatever domestic content/assembly requirement) we might look at it a little differently.
There’s a line that could indeed spark an unfortunate trade war.
