On a visit here my sister remarked how friendly everybody is, exchanging “good morning” on our walks or engaging in conversation with store clerks etc. I remember once I was walking in Rome and saw an old man sitting on a chair painting a gate. As I approached he kept looking at me so I said “good morning”..silence..then “Do you know me”? “No” “Then why do you talk to me”..I was kind of shocked at his rudeness, but my sister explained that if you do not know the person any attempt to a conversation would be misinterpreted.....

When I was in the Balkans, my friend who lived there told me that it wasn't considered rude to stare at people. Also, in stores, I would pick up things and check them out. She told me looking, but not touching was appropriate behavior for store shopping.

Guess that's why everyone was staring at me! 😋

Apparently its like that in many countries. Eunice liked the friendliness. She is quite outspoken to me. After over 50 years we have a good understanding of each others ways and we accept the differences. I’m guarded at times only because she has Lupus and I try not to upset her. I was so happy when she told me she was for brexit.
