YOU lived the gas lines! I was a cab driver during the rationing! I had to sit in gas lines 4 to 5 times a day.

Gas Lines, Rationing, odd/even days in the late 70s, I lived it.
And the 25% luxury tax which crippled the auto industry and all but destroyed the boating industry....
My company, which was a major tier I supplier in Detroit was forced to sell off our wheel and brake division which resulted in a permanent loss of approx. 750 jobs at the plant.

There wasn't a gas shortage. We were stationed at Fort Riley Kansas and we traveled down to Florida to spend Christmas with my In laws we had no problems filling the tank up of our car. Only when we arrived in Florida were we limited to 5 gallons or $5 worth of gas, but after that we could fill our car up any time we wanted.
The same when we left Florida we were limited to the same amount as when we arrived
