Trump, stated at more than one of his rallies, before the election, he was NOT fond of the phrase ‘drain the swamp’.

“It has remained part of Trumps post-election thank you tour. Whether in Ohio or Florida, the crowd continued to shout along with the president-elect as he vowed to curtail corruption in Washington even as he revealed that he wasnt always crazy about the catchphrase.
I tell everyone, I hated it, Trump said at a rally this month in Des Moines, Iowa. Somebody said drain the swamp and I said, Oh, that is so hokey. That is so terrible.
Trump went on to say he kept repeating the phrase when he realized how popular it was.”

Our President-elect is working to isolate the hard left dems and the GOPe nevertrumpers. In order to do that, he has to moderate his language and tone somewhat in order to get as much cooperation as possible from the rest of the party, as well as any blue collar dems like Manchin. This doesn't mean his plans have changed one iota, as you can tell by his aggresive cabinet appointments.
Once again DJT is two and a half steps ahead of everybody else, including Newt.

He still wants to drain the swamp and see Hillary in jail - he just doesn’t want it to be part of his Presidential vernacular....that’s what good appointments are for ;-)

He doesn't need to say it anymore. Now he just needs to do it.
