My guess is that they figured it would give credibility to the "pizzagate" story, which they were pushing-back on.
This is not necessarily to say that there was a direct link between the two stories, but that if there were prominent and influential people in Denmark involved in a pedophile ring, the idea that there might be a similar ring (or rings) in the USA could not so easily be dismissed as "absurd" or "fake news."

I meant Norway, not Denmark.

Brussels has broken paedophile rings that involved apparently a substantial portion of the government. They have done it a couple of times over the last 15 years or so. Some n Europe call paedophilia the Belgian disease.
