They do from time to time. For example, in 1976 one voted for Reagan instead of Ford. It’s different this time because even Obama spoke out against the EC

The ladies of the Sheen/Farrell/Cromwell knitting club should be happy they finally persuaded a changed vote.

This is not funny but a strategy to undermine the electoral college.

Exactly. Congress should reject the defection and tally the results as electors were bound to vote. Set the precedent now, or democrats will abuse this tactic later.

I was hoping Vermont’s electors would do the same. Sanders got a lot of write-ins in that state (like 10%) despite no campaign, and he destroyed HRC in the primary.

Also I’m holding out hope some rural electors in states HRC won resist and vote their constituents (for Trump).

Looks like he didn’t. Too bad.

Actually one or two electors voting for someone else is normal.

It very rarely happens in a very close election say a 270/269 but it happens regularly in elections where the spread is wider.

It is a "protest vote" and never really means anything because they very rarely vote for someone actually on the ballot.

Which means their vote is null.
