THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK

COLE PORTER

BORN TO DANCE

ELLA FITZGERALD: “I’VE GOT YOU UNDER MY SKIN”

Ella recorded this song many times over her career, and each time she gave it a different spin. This version is from her 1956 retrospective of Cole’s music, and she gives it a Big Band feeling.

Ella Fitzgerald: “I’ve Got You Under My Skin” (1956)

In 1964, Ella made her appearance at a jazz festival in France, and this live version is a small jazz club arrangement. She gives the song a completely different sound. You won’t believe the way she works the high note at the end.

Ella Fitzgerald: “I’ve Got You Under My Skin” (1964)

By the Seventies, Ella, like so many others, had gravitated to Nelson Riddle as a conductor and arranger. This 1972 recording puts yet a different spin on the tune.
