I’d assume any sane driver for Uber or Lyft, taking in passengers into his or her own vehicle as they do, would have an interior camera to record and provide evidence in the event of this sort of assault or robbery.

Good point, and all such drivers should have an interior camera recording events.

I installed a dashcam into my truck last week, getting used to it. So this morning I'm leaving a crowded parking lot and waiting behind another driver for the light to change. My dashcam wasn't coming on, I kept tapping it and jiggling the power cable connection. The light changed green and the driver ahead of me was inattentive and didn't go. I honked. So he starts very slowly, meanwhile a car blasts through the intersection against his red (our green) at high speed, some 6 seconds after light change. If the guy ahead of me hadn't hesitated, I would have gotten nailed! Darn camera connection was loose and I would not have gotten it on camera. I'm making sure it works from now on.
